How Can Therapy Support Couples, Families, or Divorce?

Whether you’re strengthening a relationship, navigating conflict, or facing a major change like divorce, therapy offers a space to communicate clearly and move forward with understanding.

Therapy Can Help with Family issues

Relationships can be one of life's biggest challenges, but therapy can help you navigate the bumps. Whether it’s marital problems, trying to improve your relationship, or having recently gone through a divorce, we offer a safe space for you to try and navigate the problems. We are direct, and on your team in couples therapy and try to reach both of your goals as best as we can.

How we help with Marriage, Family, Divorce, and Couples Therapy, whether strengthening, transitioning or managing outside stressors (or addictions).

We try our best to take a personalized approach to every single session, and with Couples, Family, Marriage, and Divorce Therapy there are a range of topics we can discuss and tackle. We use multiple modalities, including Co-parenting, and figuring out the next steps with your partner, and we help Improve Communication.

Co-Parenting- Read more about parenting from my blog! Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

In therapy, we help parents create a foundation of emotional stability by encouraging consistency, clear boundaries, and meaningful communication. With Generation Alpha growing up in an increasingly digital and complex world, we emphasize the importance of slowing down their exposure to mature content, prioritizing face-to-face connections, and promoting time in nature. We work with you on building emotional regulation skills in your children by modeling self-awareness, practicing empathy, and being transparent about your own imperfections—including knowing when to apologize. By offering both structure and independence, we empower your children to grow into self-reflective, confident, and emotionally intelligent changemakers.

Improving Communication-

No one can read minds, which is why improving communication with your partner is a key focus in therapy. In order to communicate better, it’s essential to improve active listening and ensure that both partners have a chance to express themselves without interruption. In therapy, couples explore how they currently communicate, and even why they communicate the way they do.  Identifying negative or ineffective patterns such as interrupting, blaming, or shutting down during disagreements. Recognizing these patterns is the first step toward meaningful change and healthier communication.

Next Steps When a Relationship is Ending

At Lynn Zakeri LCSW and Associates we provide an open and safe space for divorced couples. We set up a neutral setting so both parties know they can say what they need, and allow for both parties to speak and clarify themselves without fear of being attacked. We can help identify key issues in the relationship and with co-parenging and mend them to a point that is okay with both parties. We don't focus on “winning” or “losing” in couples therapy, we want both parties to feel like they have gotten what they need.
